About Paintball

Paintball is a war game, where teams or individuals shoot each other with paintball guns in order to eliminate their opponent. Paintball is commonly combined with capture the flag.

Paintball History

Paintball was created by Hayes Noel, Bob Gurnsey, and Charles Gaines, in an attempt to recreate the excitement of Gaines recent hunting trip to Africa and his experiences hunting buffalo. Inspired by Richard Connell's The Dangerous Game, the two friends invented a game in which they could chase and hunt each other. The came up with the plan to use guns that shot plastic balls full of paint that would explode on impact, with little pain to the target. Their ideas lead to the first paintball game on June 27, 1981. The twelve friends that competed in that game devised the first rules for paintball. Due to the limited paintball technology these first few games were very different then the ones today. There was only one kind of paintball gun at the time, it could not hold a lot of ammo, and it was hard to load. Sometimes players would throw the paintballs at each other. Today, paintball technology has evolved to where there are hundreds of different kinds of paintball guns, with rapid loading, and even automatic shooting. According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association over 5.4 million people currently play paintball in the United States.

National and international paintball leagues offer organized tournaments that attract professional, semi-professional, and amateur teams, crowds of spectators, and prizes.

Paintball Tips

Like in capture the flag, teams should assign players to defend the flag and players to capture the opposing team's flag. In elimination teammates should work together to cover each other.
